Quartz

Quartz is a mineral that’s easily available from the crust of earth. And yet, it’s quite valuable for its vast usage.

Chemical Term SiO2 (Silica, or silicon dioxide).

It is abundant in igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks. It is highly resistant to both mechanical and chemical weathering.

This durability makes it the dominant mineral of mountaintops and the primary constituent of beach, river, and desert sand.

There are many different varieties of quartz, several of which are semi-precious gemstones. Since antiquity, varieties of quartz have been the most commonly used minerals in the making of jewelry and hard stone carvings.

Pure quartz, traditionally called rock crystal or clear quartz, is colorless and transparent or translucent, and has often been used for hard stone carvings, such as the Lothair Crystal. Common colored varieties include citrine, rose quartz, amethyst, smoky quartz, milky quartz, and others.
